Year in, year out, the operas of Benjamin Britten get some 200 performances a year in 30 different cities around the world. It is one measure of the international appeal of a deeply British composer. To celebrate that appeal, and encourage greater acceptance in areas where his music is not so well known, the year leading up to the composer’s 100th anniversary in November 2013 is going to be one big party.
